I witnessed another way articles and information disappears. When Gawker filed for bankruptcy, I was part of the team that covered it. A 2015 Gawker article that Sam Biddle wrote that referenced hacked emails from former Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton was deleted from the site without explanation during the bankruptcy. Lynton told us he had nothing to do with it. We assumed - but couldn’t prove - someone paid the bankruptcy trustee to take it down. After all, his job is to maximize $$ for creditors. Here’s the story if you’re interested.
I would love to someday find out what the hell happened here. I dunno if it still is but for a long time that post was in Gawker’s robots.txt file, de-indexed from Google.
Me too. We went through a lot of extra vetting and BS on Randles's article just to get it out. Some of the old-school types in the newsroom kept pushing me about why we should care. "It's not the Library of Alexandria," was one comment that particularly stuck in my craw.
One thing that makes me feel it was a conscious decision based on the subject matter is what I've learned about the purchaser: they seem to be a online gambling outfit, I assume they're buying Deadspin to promote/juice sports gambling stuff, and as such, they could not care less about what articles are or aren't archived on the site
At least the person hasn't vetoed ceasefire resolutions multiples times over the past few months in the UN Security council like the US's UN ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has.
Attempts at humor aside, I've though about Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield a lot the last few months. How do you actually cast that vote? Do you justify it to yourself as "just following orders" or just being a cog in a machine?
I rode the elevator with him one day and the next day they sent out an email about a new G/O dress code that specifically mentioned men wearing shorts with less than a 7" inseam or something. (It was like July in midtown and we were slingin the thighs around if you know what I mean).

Huh! I didn't actually know about that one, that's wild!

Adults in the Room was such a great piece.

On the bright side, the cereal rankings are still alive
That is about as depressingly dumb as I was expecting and yet I’m still surprised by the stupidity of demanding a 7” seam.

Jack I’d love to hear more about your interaction with this vacant skin suited herb.
