And when I saw that speech by Harris my first thought was she was gonna get chewed out by the White House because she was being ~too~ empathetic, in comparison to what the party line has been thus far. We live in hell.

I guess another way - ”Why won’t Hamas simply release all the hostages immediately so that hostilities can cease - including the Americans being held still - especially when Hamas is the govt in Gaza supposedly tasked with safe guarding their citizens”.

Hamas offered this if Netanyahu promised to end the war and Netanyahu rejected it

Think about the calculus that suggests. Hamas: I could hold these hostages and 100% sure our children will starve to death or be bombed. But it will make my enemy look bad so I do it anyway rather than taking say a 50% or better chance to stop that from happening. That is some cold shit from their leaders. I despise the leader of Israel but he has noting on these guys. Literally willing to sacrifice their own people to score advantage on world political stage (and it is working which is why they are sticking with it ).

Do you let the kidnapper / rapist dictate terms of stopping the kidnapping and rape? In what world does that seem reasonable? All that will generate is more kidnapping and rape.

I agree that Israel should not dictate the terms for stopping the genocide that they're perpetrating. Good analogy
