I was laid off for the first time in May and I stupidly thought I was going to get promoted. Literally had a call with a coworker beforehand and was like "it's a monday, they just assigned me a new story, there's no way i'm getting laid off" and yet...
I'll be honest here and admit that I thought that I thought at least someone employed at Splinter knew that the site was going to stop publishing on 10/10/19. Thanks for informing me that that was not the case.
As long as I'm being honest I'll also admit I'm of the opinion that the true legacy of Gawker is that we should be able to ask any question, but obviously it's up to you if you want to answer said question. How did your union make your employer "absorb the pain"? G/O Media still exists, seven months after deciding to fire everyone at Splinter.
"The first time I got laid off I thought that I was going to get a raise." I'm going to cry.
