cars and pets are both consumer goods that you choose to purchase, with the knowledge that they will cost money for maintenance and upkeep after the initial purchase.

Yes, the government should fund robust public transit, but thats not what your blog was about. You were advocating for the govenment to subsidize private purchases for a portion of of our population, which is kinda gross man.

since a large majority of americans own pets and a large majority of those people consider their pets to be part of their families — 85 percent of dog owners and 76 percent of cat owners, in one study: https://phys.org/news/2021-07-sociologist-pet-parents-pets-family.html — i think your view that they are akin to cars or consumer goods is a minority view. given that reality, saying that healthcare for all should include them, or even that we should take steps to make sure that caring for them doesn't make people go bankrupt, doesn't strike me as particularly outlandish. rather, it strikes me as another way to make our society more humane for everyone.

something that is popular is not always "good" or "right", a writer on a leftist blog should know that more than anyone.

please stop with the pets as part of your family. When you say that, what you are doing is equating me, a human being, with a dog or rodent, which is REALLY fucking insulting.
