Embarrassed to admit I was one of those "god only gives you so much because he knows you can handle it" high schoolers, and then chose to apply it to like, heartbreak wrought by bad relationships lol.
I'll start: At summer camp I had a friend who loudly and enthusiastically encouraged people not to wear flip flops in the showers because the chemicals they used to make flip flops were "worse for you" than any fungus or bacteria you could catch walking around barefoot.
When I first transferred to college after my community college, I had multiple advisors and professors, tell me that trying to study forestry so I could be a park ranger was a terrible idea and that I would "never be able to make a living doing that" still pretty bummed I took that to heart
i hope you have your revenge on those absolute jerks. what on earth is wrong with forestry? being a park ranger was my dad's dream, too; he would have been so good at being alone in the woods for long periods of time. but whoops he ended up in oil refining.
I don't know exactly what was the worst advice I ever received but one of the worst that I can recall was from a boss I had at an office job one summer during college (probably 2003). He said to me I would have been better off using my tuition money to start a business. (Was this even advice or being a condescending a*hole?) He had an MBA and came from a well to do family, and I was the first person in my family to go to college full time.
Advice to get an MA in international relations from a mid-tier (read: upper-tier pricing, medium-low educational quality) university. Christ, what a waste.
On a related note, how do I access the Discord server?
This is a wee bit awkward compared to what I remember these things being like previously. Is it defectors fault?
Edit: I’ve been bummed about my news diet since the bullshit in 2019 all played out. Alex summed it up pretty well in a piece for New Republic after he had left Splinter and Splinter had just been axed and deadspin zombified. I don’t like sports much so was never a big fan of deadspin except for the non sports stuff. But let’s admit it I think defector is doing well because of sports. Lots of people like sports and rude sports commentary. Splinter coming back as Discourse blog was the news I needed in 2020. Maybe this blog got some ex-deadspin engagement because it appeared before defector. For those who have left and obviously getting paid better I’m happy for that but tbh they’re not allowed to swear kinda and it’s like, not rude journalism anymore? Kinda suffers like that, idk, please don’t go away.

right, a "friend"
jack, please, I have my many, many flaws, but my neurosis around personal hygiene has only ever been to my (and everyone else's) benefit
you have a neurosis about something?
wait..why? What else have you heard?
wouldn’t you like to know
I mean, clearly, yes.
Can't help but wonder how the last two years have been for this guy........
If you work hard, it will be rewarded justly.

Just search the archives if that’s not the right instructions.
Same, I'd be down for a discord link
