I thought Biden might squeeze by with the abortion issue. I think it might be a landslide for Trump now. Sacrificing his presidency for the power of the empire

They are the "good cop" to the GOP "bad cop." They are on the same damn side!

Agree. It's a big club and we're not in it.

These people will never be on the right side of history. And when Biden loses in November, him and all his idiot cronies will have no one but themselves to blame.

Expand full comment

Agreed but they will blame us.

They’ll always find a reason to blame us regardless. They’ve been blaming us since 2000 when Nader “cost” Gore the election. Did it in 2016 because of those dastardly Bernie bros sabotaging kween hillary, would’ve done it in 2020 if Covid didn’t save sleepy joe’s ass, and they’ll do it again in 2024 because people refuse to vote for a genocide. Same as it ever was.

Nah, SCOTUS installed Shrub Jr. Gore easily won Florida. But the Brooks Brothers riot, thank Roger Stone, apparently scared the court enough to throw the election. We got ridiculously lucky in 2020 that SCOTUS didn't have plausible deniability or they would have handed that election to Trump. Republican operatives are fucking around at the state level to try an manufacture that plausible deniability for the 2024 election. The oligarchs have spent a massive fuck ton of money to turn this country into a christo fascist shithole. They will be expecting returns on those investments.

Par for the course. At some point, the 70 and 80 year-old leaders of the Democratic party will die off. Unfortunately it will be too late to save the republic.

They're already doing so preemptively.

Thing is? No one really cares about being on the right side of history. Never have, never will. They care about building wealth and power here and now and don't give a fuck about what your grandkids think, or hell if your grandkids even can live in a dystopian climate ravaged hellscape. Gimme the bag. Now.

As of today, both the BDS movement and abortion are more popular than President Biden. He can't possibly win with approval numbers that low. I don't buy into 'history repeating itself like poetry' bullshit, with all the Gen-X journalists comparing 1968 to 2024 (I am also a proud Xer, born in '73). But this summer looks like a looming disaster for Joe and the Democrats. They made it clear that the US must prop-up Israel forever, no matter how small the benefits to the American people and no matter how many times young Americans question that policy. The Democrats have also made it clear that while they welcome Republicans and anti-abortionists to their big tent, they have zero tolerance for critics of Israel. The GOP autocracy is coming now, folks. Not 2028. It's happening now. Come up with a resistance and/or exile plan.

You know, for the longest time I always had a hard time understanding rightwing cranks that accused those of us who were against the Iraq war of being anti-American when we were just anti-war.

After watching this whole asinine spectacle roll out, I finally understand the meaning of the phrase "If you hate America so much, then get out." If you really hate genocide so much, why aren't you marching in the streets against the Chinese government's systematic genocide of the minority Uighur population? Why aren't you marching against the Turkish dictator Erdogan's repeated denials of the Armenian genocide? And why aren't you marching against the rich Quatari Nazis that fund Hamas in its attempted genocide against Israeli Jews? Are you going to rename a hall after Amina al-Hassouni, the seven-year-old Arab Bedouin girl who was severely injured by shrapnel caused by the Iranian drone strike against Israel landing in her family home. No, of course you won't because it doesn't fit your anti-colonial narrative.

Congratulations, your generation managed to turn an anti-Iraq War leftist like me into becoming one of those cranks who says "If you hate America so much, then get out."

First of all, whataboutism has entered the chat. Congratulations on that one. Secondly, if this didn't do it something else was going to. If people protesting against an actual, well-documented genocide is what gets you to "America--love it or leave it" you were always going to end up there and were just waiting for the right excuse. You used to not understand the rightwing cranks, now you're on your way to becoming one.

Well for one, we're not currently giving China billions in both money and weapons to perpetuate and support what they are doing to Uighurs. Student protests have a long history, the amount of hand wringing on this and the overly harsh police response is completely hysterical

"How dare these consarned rabble-rousing students protest a genocide happening right now in real time instead of a genocide that happened nearly a century ago! Or another one that doesn't benefit from weapons bought and paid for with their tax dollars! Or other incoherent nonsense that I think they should be concerned with instead!"

"Why, I've almost had to grab for the smelling salts! Harumph!"

Caitlyn Scneider, you are insufficient on two counts. One, the police you support ought to have charged the perpetrators with the serious charge of breaking and entering because the three inconsequential ones are insufficient. Two, you fail to recognize that escalation by the government of Israel needs to continue until Her citizens held hostage in captivity in Palestine are free. Inasmuch as they are unwilling residents of Palestine themselves, let's agree to FREE PALESTINE residents.

Hey you know what's definitely going to lead to the release of the captives in the hands of Hamas is to continue to do the thing that's been done for the last 7 months and has result in the release of exactly zero hostages and the deaths of at least 3. Brilliant.
