The NYT is reporting from an anonymous source in the FBI that an investigation has been opened regarding foreign bots voting in the final round. I'll be on MSNBC later with a corkboard and string to clear this up for everyone and prove that I'm being totally cool about this
it was rough to see two champs like the spotted eagle-owl and the crow seeded together in the first round, but it feels good that one of them went on to win the tournament. at the end of the day Crow left it all on the field, and that level of dedication, commitment, and taste for carrion is what this tournament is really about. congratulations to Crow—you earned it!
The Lammergeier will always be #1 in my heart, but the Crow is definitely a worthy champion. Salt of the earth, not in any way flashy, but a pinnacle of bird smarts and hard work. And bonus points for being so damn cool that it inspired Brandon Lee to be the best goth hero ever.
The early waves of migrants have started arriving here in NYC, with pine warblers, palm warblers, waterthrushes, oystercatchers, and others, so spring migration is on! Looking forward to seeing some of those out at Jamaica Bay tomorrow, along with some winter holdovers like weird ducks, brants, and (*crosses fingers*) maybe even a northern gannet.
Looking at the matches that the Kea won, I'm not sure it was total American Exceptionalism here. You can be sad that chalk carried the day (like when Duke wins the NCAAs) but it's not like the Crow didn't earn it.

IT'S TIME FOR SOME BIRD GAME THEORY

My neighborhood crows are gathered in their favorite tall pine tree in rightful triumph. Hell yeah.
Also Lammergeier 4ever.

Always knew the little guy had it in ‘em. Much respect to the Kea 🙇

It's the most birdiest time of the year!
American jingoism, xenophobia, and exceptionalism all wrapped into one. Stars and Stripes triumphant.

I’m still salty about my perfect shoebill losing. I’ll be screaming fraud until the white coats take me away.
