As I mentioned previously, I have a Springfield zip code. My partner is required to work from home this week due to threats made against her workplace. KKK members from Kentucky are leaving recruitment fliers around the city. Public events are being cancelled, including the annual CultureFest, which celebrates diversity, arts, and culture. And now Trump is talking about making a stop here. I fear that this is only going to get worse.

I'm so sorry for everything you're all going through! Trump and Vance are going to hell.

Excellent analysis as always, Jack! Playing with people's lives and destabilizing the countries that many migrants now flee has long been a bipartisan project. I suppose it's no surprise that the villainizing of the migrants themselves is now a shared effort, too.

Immigrants a 3rd rail, peace in Palestine a 3rd rail, negotiating a peace agreement in Ukraine a 3rd rail, civil rights (free uncencored speach) a 3rd rail. We are so lost America.

And this shit is spreading to other cities that have large Haitian populations. Miami. Brockton Massachusetts, where I grew up. This is bad, and people are going to get killed. Even some of the most progressive House members are silent. The only strong statement of condemnation I can find is Biden's.

On Peter Beinart’s substack he talks about how he wishes Harris had made a liberal defence of immigration. No one’s expecting the Dems to be border abolitionist communists but it’s very grim when the ostensibly liberal party can’t even make the point that immigration is good and necessary for the country

this is some abhorrent victim blaming bullshit here, yes the democrats could and should be better on immigration, but it's entirely and only the fault of the people spreading racist lies about Springfield who are to blame here, no matter how overwhelming your fetish to blame democrats for everything is.

So the *Democrats* are the victims in this situation? Not, you know, the working-class and poor immigrants living in fear of pogroms?

This is an absurd use of “victim blaming” and I think it’s too stupid for you to genuinely believe

I believe in blaming racists for being racists and not giving them cover. if you feel otherwise and want to take a more nuanced view on racists, that's entirely your prerogative.

I’m brown as fuck so believe me when I tell you I’m not doing that and your baby brained never criticize the Democrats bullshit will pave the way and is paving the way for a major shift to the right in U.S. politics

The problem is you can’t actually challenge anything that’s been said with facts or logic or political analysis so you have to pretend the essay is unfairly targeting Dems/letting Trump and Vance off the hook but it’s not so you reach for this bizzare bs like “victim blaming”

there's not much to argue when somebody wants to try to play 4D chess and claim that the real issue with trump and vance being unrepentant racists is the democrats. I'm not stupid enough to try and pretend that the democrats are some perfect political party (I've been yelling about the obvious illegality / moral horror that drone strikes are for more than16 years now), but I'm also not stupid enough to "well actually" a bunch of racists being racists.

Democrats are not victims here. They are cowards. This is how we got Kathy Hochul as governor of New York. I would think that Harris praising immigration as an engine of economic growth would be a winning move. But apparently that's something she isn't willing to say. How did we end up with the world's largest GDP?
