Incidentally, I kinda hope that some of the mystique and - yes - reputation of the Ivies is starting to fall away. Considering what kinds of dumb dumbs (eg W, Ben Shapiro, et al) graduate from them, it's past due.

In the mid 2000s I was introduced to the works of Prof Richard Bulliet. I devoured his lecture and his books. He is a massive influence on who I am today. Through him I was turned on to Prof Edward Said. I have never been to college but Columbia University was “my” school and I always cheered them on. Its so sad how much boot they have eaten. May history condemn them.

At some point like 10 years from now, the Columbia Board is going to look out onto the campus from a nice bay window during one of their meetings and wonder a) where all the money went and b) how they ended up with THIS student body. No connections will be made.

feeling a bit paralyzed right now. I'm a postdoc at a university that will probably be in the second or third round of those hit. Leadership at my school was looking to see how Columbia would respond. So surreal watching the void lurch closer.
